City Dump Ministries

In 2016, we started a scholarship program, Project VALOR, for the graduating sixth graders of the school by the dump to go to middle school. There is an elementary school within walking distance of the dump. However, all the middle schools are several miles away, and the students need to take a bus to get there. The scholarship program provides the funds needed for transportation, school supplies and uniforms. In addition, the students attend our tutoring program twice a week, where they receive help on their homework, have access to computers and printers, and are discipled by the staff of Pure Joy Missions. This program has grown to reach not only the children whose parents work at the dump, but it also now helps children whose parents work in other areas, including the local agricultural fields.

In May of 2016, we started a new program to reach the children living in the area surrounding the city garbage dump. Every Monday afternoon, around 80 children gather at the school for "Club Exploradores," a program that teaches biblical values and bible stories. The program also gives the children an outlet to just be kids- to play games, to win prizes, and most importantly, to be loved.
