Project Valor is Pure Joy’s main ministry. Little by little we’ve been organizing this ministry better and have noticed positive changes. Unlike other years, this year we divided the kids into small groups. Each small group has an assigned tutor which has given us a chance to have more personal tutoring with the kids and parents. This also allows us to get to know each student better and know how to support them in a better way and to focus on any areas they are struggling with.
There’s two girls in my group that come Mondays and Thursdays. One of them is super creative with her homework and assignments, she strives to get good grades on them which has motivated the other girl to also try her best to be more creative in her homework and assignments. They help each other with ideas and materials. The girls’ names are Katherine, who is in 11th grade and specializes in administration and has been in project Valor for 5 years; and Yasmin, who is in 8th grade and in her first year as part of the ministry. In May we had a meeting with all the sponsored kids and their parents to go over the ministry rules and penalties again in regards to the commitment they have acquired with Pure Joy Missions. We were able to have a guest speaker there that gave a motivational talk challenging us to give our best for what we want and told us that anything can happen and that the only obstacle to not do it is yourself. It was very impactful that some moms, that are widows, shared how they feel. They said they were about to give up because of all the responsibilities and duties they’ve had to carry on their own. But it was very inspiring for them to hear the talk from our guest speaker, who is someone blind and has not allowed that to stop her from growing and reaching her goals. We were also motivated by her and challenged to make the necessary changes to be better in the ministry and to help the kids improve.
