What Project VALOR means, from the students & families we serve

This program represents life, courage, and strength to me. It encourages and helps me to keep going with giving my best and motivates me to reach either my short or long term goals in school. Thanks to that it helps us move forward and reach our dreams. It’s an example we can follow that we can reach anything we aim for in life. Pure Joy has left a mark in us and thanks to them we are reaching our goals and some have already accomplished their dreams with God’s help and theirs.

“My name is Allizón. Pure Joy Missions is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me, because the missionaries have taught me a lot of values. They help me with my homework, and they’ve taught me to never give up and to fight for my dreams. I am so thankful for you, for giving me the opportunity to continue in school. My dream will always be to be a good woman, and I know that with God’s help, my parents’ and Pure Joy Missions ministry’s help, my dreams will come true. God bless each person that makes this ministry exist.”

“My name is Alma and I am one of the moms whose daughter (Allizón) has been benefited through the Pure Joy Missions ministry. Pure Joy Missions means a lot to me because it teaches values to us parents, and it teaches our kids to go after their dreams. I am so thankful to the ministry because I never imagined receiving both financial and spiritual help. Thank you so much to everyone that makes true our kid’s dreams of succeeding. God bless each one of you abundantly.”

This letter is for Pure Joy Missions, but also for everyone who is involved, because you all make a great team.

Pure Joy Missions has been a key for me to move forward in my school and reach a career. The scholarship represents an investment in my future and I am convinced that my commitment and dedication will allow me to maximize this opportunity you’re giving me.

I’m excited to be part of Pure Joy Missions scholarship program. It is a huge blessing in my life and as always I want to say thank you to everyone and wish you all the good things and that God bless your lives.

To me, this project is a source to keep pushing forward since they offer me the help I need to continue in school. This project is important to me because it will allow me to develop new abilities and knowledge that will be fundamental to my future, given that I have big dreams to follow and Lord willing with this help I will be able to accomplish them. I am confident that this project will help me grow as an individual and become a professional; and it will give me the tools and resources that I need to reach my goals.
I am very thankful to this project for giving me the opportunity of this scholarship and for the support you give me.

Thank you!!!

It’s my pleasure to be able to greet you. My name is Doris (I am Kevin's mom)

You asked me what does Pure Joy mean to me. As a mom, I thank God for being part of the benefited family group, as it’s helped me  a lot at home, in my kid’s school, and with personal motivation, since the program is full professional and equipped people that are there to help and guide students. I’ve noticed that Kevin has moved forward a lot every time he goes to tutoring. Seeing my son achieve his dreams and goals he sets fills me with excitement and joy. And also seeing him feel so loved by his assigned tutor, Yeni. I thank God for bringing this person to my life, he knows who needs an angel like her. I pray God takes care and protects each member of the project and their families.

I’m so thankful for everything you have given me.

God bless you for supporting me, may he always protect and take care of you.

Sending you a hug through distance wherever you are.

Blessings!

Sincerely,
Doris

Mission Update: From Our Missionary Heidy

My name is Heidy and I’m 37 years old. I have a five year old daughter, Amaris Adaly, who turns 6 in June and a boy, Eliseo Isai, who turned 7 in April. I am fortunate to be a missionary in Pure Joy Missions. I love telling others about God’s love. It’s sad to see that many of the Project Valor kids aren’t able to go to church. But we do our best so they are able to have the fear of the Lord and for them to learn values that will help them at all times in their lives. Each one of these students goes through rough times in their lives. It’s our pleasure to be able to support them with our advice and unconditional support. We can tell how their family situation and environment at home affects them academically, given that we had a boy whose parents were in a separation conflict- The mom left the house leaving behind 3 kids, two boys and a girl. We saw how this affected their schooling, because the two boys failed some classes. The one boy who had never failed a class failed one, and the younger boy failed two. Sadly, the environment the majority of these kids live in is not the best for what’s expected from them academically. The biggest struggles are malnutrition and the parents lack of interest in supporting their kids in their studies.

On the other hand we have the Club Exploradores kids- I’m very happy for them. They’re so excited to get there every Monday. They’re there on time, full of enthusiasm, and they are very engaged. This year we saw a 50-60% increase from last year. We are so excited to share the Good News of salvation with kids starting at age 2 and on. We also have their moms there. God has been good and amazing with all of us. Visiting the elderly at the nursing home and seeing their genuine joy when they see us arrive every Thursday fills us with joy. Most of their family members have abandoned them so they see us as those kids and grandkids that they don’t have.

Thank you so much Pure Joy for letting me be a part of this great ministry, one that doesn’t only focus on the present and future, but also values what awaits for us after death. It is my pleasure to serve the Lord through each one of Pure Joy’s ministries.

Ministry Update: From Our Missionary Yeni

Last year was a blessing but sad at the same time as we lost two of our kids and their parents. Because of that I felt the need to make a calling to ask Jesus into their hearts. Several weeks ago I talked to two of the kids from the tutoring program. One of them was Kevin. He’s part of my group and is a very introverted boy but at the same time has a hard time controlling his emotions. His mom asked me to talk to him because he has bad reports in school. I see in him a great guy who is confused. I keep having conversations with him and when we are praying during our devos, I see his reverence in prayer to the Lord. The other boy is Franklin. He’s not part of my group but he came up to me saying he wanted to talk about something personal. He’s a very intelligent kid and has good grades but he is very insecure of himself and feels like he doesn’t have real friends. I invited him to ask Christ into his heart, which he did. This makes me feel a purpose and useful in the hands of God. This year we took ice cream with banana as a snack to the elderly home. They enjoyed it a lot and one of the ladies said she had been craving ice cream for a long time and now it came true. Something probably very simple but meant a lot to me.

Ministry Update: From our Director Wendy

Project Valor is Pure Joy’s main ministry. Little by little we’ve been organizing this ministry better and have noticed positive changes. Unlike other years, this year we divided the kids into small groups. Each small group has an assigned tutor which has given us a chance to have more personal tutoring with the kids and parents. This also allows us to get to know each student better and know how to support them in a better way and to focus on any areas they are struggling with.

There’s two girls in my group that come Mondays and Thursdays. One of them is super creative with her homework and assignments, she strives to get good grades on them which has motivated the other girl to also try her best to be more creative in her homework and assignments. They help each other with ideas and materials. The girls’ names are Katherine, who is in 11th grade and specializes in administration and has been in project Valor for 5 years; and Yasmin, who is in 8th grade and in her first year as part of the ministry.

In May we had a meeting with all the sponsored kids and their parents to go over the ministry rules and penalties again in regards to the commitment they have acquired with Pure Joy Missions. We were able to have a guest speaker there that gave a motivational talk challenging us to give our best for what we want and told us that anything can happen and that the only obstacle to not do it is yourself. It was very impactful that some moms, that are widows, shared how they feel. They said they were about to give up because of all the responsibilities and duties they’ve had to carry on their own. But it was very inspiring for them to hear the talk from our guest speaker, who is someone blind and has not allowed that to stop her from growing and reaching her goals. We were also motivated by her and challenged to make the necessary changes to be better in the ministry and to help the kids improve.
